Transformative Education

The primary objective of the School of Transformative Education’s programmes is to train professional teachers in support of quality education in Sierra Leone.

Quality education is the foundational capacity-building function of society.   At the UMU, students gain the skills and knowledge to equip the next generation through excellent teaching, mentorship, and leadership.

Programmes at the School of Transformative Education

  • National Diploma in Education (NDE)
  • Higher Teachers Certificate Primary (HTC Primary)
  • Higher Teachers Certificate Secondary (HTC Secondary)
  • Teachers Certificate (TC)

These programmes are full time and of two to four years duration. The delivery mode consists of lectures, supervised dissertations and practicals. In addition to the formal delivery mode, there is a non-formal adult and continuing education mode for an outreach intervention.  This includes the Theological Education by Extension (TEE) Programme which targets candidates in the provinces who do not have the opportunity to be at the regular semester sessions.
