The United Methodist University (UMU) – Sierra Leone was born for the purpose of raising up a generation of visionary leaders who will transform every segment of Sierra Leone. 

WHO WE ARE

The United Methodist University (UMU) – Sierra Leone is a Private Christian University open to people of all faiths, with two campuses in Freetown.

The Leicester Peak campus, situated at the highest peak of Freetown on a former missionary compound, houses the Bishop Wenner School of Theology.

The Siaka Stevens Campus, situated on King Harman Road at the old presidential lodge, houses our School of Transformative Education, School of Business and Entrepreneurial Studies, The WASSCE Preparatory College, and The Center for Nonformal, Adult and Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning.

The UMU is accredited by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and its related programmes by the National Council for Technical, Vocational and Other Academic Awards (NCTVA).

History

The UMU is the result of the vision of the Late Bishop John K. Yambasu, a former missionary to youth and young adults across Africa. Upon consecration, Bishop Yambasu presented his Vision 20/20 in which he communicated the dream of a university devoted to Christian values that exists for the transformation of Sierra Leone.

Growth

The UMU is a growing institution with plans to open a main campus in Pa Loko, Waterloo in the Western Rural District and establish new Faculties in:

  • Nursing, Community, and Allied Health Sciences
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Technology and Information Systems
  • Agriculture, Food Technology, and Natural Resources.

Governing Structure

The UMU is managed by a Governing Council and headed by a Vice Chancellor. The Council is chaired by the Chancellor.
